Whitworth to celebrate new science hall

Whitworth to celebrate new science hall

Whitworth students began attending classes at the new Robinson Science Hall this fall school year.

The new $32 million academic facility is home to Whitworth's biology, chemistry and health science departments. Originally those departments were housed in the Eric Johnston Science Center along with other departments, but now they have more room to breathe.

The new silver LEED certified hall also features state-of-the-art laboratories, research facilities and classrooms.

The Eric Johnston Science Center is now slated for some remodeling. Public information officer, Emily Proffitt says the exact date is yet to be determined, but it will happen in the next few years.

The new hall is being celebrated as part of the school's Homecoming events.

Three town hall meetings will discuss ballot measure

Three town hall meetings will discuss ballot measure

Three town hall meetings are scheduled to discuss Spokane County Measure No. 1 that addresses the needs for a regional animal shelter.

In order for Spokane County voters to prepare for their election decision, Commissioner Todd Mielke and SCRAPS Director Nancy Hill will conduct three of these meetings so voters can share their input about the proposed combined animal shelter.

The proposed measure would mean SCRAPS would continue to hold the animal control contract for the county, but would then take over the city's contract with Spokanimal.

Let's Make Others Aware

Let's Make Others Aware
Suicide is not a topic any of us like to discuss but perhaps by making people aware that there are others out there who care, and others who have perhaps been touched by this sadness, it will prevent another person from thinking this is the only way out of their despair.  So, tomorrow, September 24 there is a suicide prevention walk entitled "Out of the Darkness" that perhaps you and your friends or loved ones would like to participate in.  The walk will start at 10am in Mission Park, 1200 E. Mission Ave.

Prosecutor Clears Officers Involved In Fatal Crash

Prosecutors ruled Thursday that a Washington State Trooper and two Spokane County Sheriff deputies were justified in using spike strips on a fleeing car that crashed, killing the driver.

After getting reports of a car being driven erratically southbound on Highway 395 north of Spokane, the deputies and state trooper tried to pull 50-year-old Post Falls resident Daniel Marinovich over, but they said he didn't seem to notice their lights and sirens.

A spike strip was used to flatten one of his tires and about a mile later Marinovich crashed head-on into a logging truck on the Wandermere Bridge. He died at the scene.
