A Ride-Along With Spokane Police Department

A Ride-Along With Spokane Police Department

(Updated 7:04 p.m.) - I spent my Thursday evening with Officer J. Willard as we patrolled North Spokane. We encountered a business with regular false alarms, a hit-and-run in an apartment complex and a domestic violence call. We also raced across town to respond to an incident where neighbors said they saw a man running around the West Central neighborhood with a gun. That fizzled to nothing eventually.

During the seven hours that I rode with Ofc. Willard, we responded to eight separate incidents. His shift would not end until 3 a.m.

Below is a timeline of events as they happened. A Storify of tweets is also available to view.

Coats 4 Kids will be collecting coats on Sunday, the last day of the Interstate Fair

Coats 4 Kids will be collecting coats on Sunday, the last day of the Interstate Fair

Coats 4 Kids is an annual fundraiser that has been collecting coats for children for 26 years. They start collecting in mid-September so children can keep warm just in time for the cold and wet fall and the colder and snowy winter.

KXLY has teamed up with the fundraiser to help collect coats at the Spokane Interstate Fair. On Sunday, September 18th, visitors who bring new or gently used coats to donate will let one child 13 and under in free  to the fair from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Coat drop-offs will be at the entry gates.

If you're headed up to the fair for a variety of events on the 18th, including the full-sized car demolition derby, don't forget to bring a new or gently used children's coat that you can donate. That Sunday is the last day of the fair.

Victim provides no description for burglary suspect except for a jingling noise

Sometimes it's the title of these Spokane County Sheriff's Office incident reports that really shine through. PIO, Dave Reagan writes, "keep the change", in reference to a burglar who was captured by their K-9 team and patrol deputies.

Deputies responded to a burglary in the 100 block of West Falcon Wednesday morning around 5:15 a.m. The homeowner said he surprised the burglar in his attached garage. He couldn't provide law enforcement a description of the suspect, but he did provide one thing. The jingling noise the suspect made as he scampered off.
