Red Flag Warning issued for Spokane and Stevens County for majority of afternoon and evening

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Spokane and Stevens County. The highest threat according to the National Weather Service is south of Fruitland to Deer Park.

Dry and breezy conditions will affect other parts of Eastern Washington and North Idaho. From late morning until late evening, sustained winds from 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph are expected in the area. Drought conditions with low humidity and high winds are ideal for wildland fire ignition and propagation. Fires could spread quickly with dry vegetation as fuel.

Updated - 9:38 a.m. Firefighters suspect an abandoned stolen truck that caught on fire is to blame for the scorched five acres of trees and heavy brush near Pacific Park Drive this morning. Neighbors first reported the brush fire around 2:30 a.m.

Fire officials say the fire started at the bottom of a hill and came within 100 feet of homes. Spokane Fire District #9 quickly responded and contained the fire by creating a wet line around it.

Officials said it was a difficult fire to fight because it was located in a heavily wooded area.

Two Eastern Washington liquor stores selected for state-wide spirits sampling program

A pilot program announced by the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) featuring spirits sampling will kick off in Washington on September 1st. The program was established from Engrossed Substitute House Bill 1202, signed into legislation by the Governor in April. The bill creates a pilot program that allows spirits sampling in state liquor and contract stores.
