City of Spokane Wins EPA PISCES Award

City of Spokane Wins EPA PISCES Award

Innovative storm water control strategies on West Broadway Ave. in Spokane has earned the City the PISCES Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In an effort to protect the Spokane River from water runoff, the City built 28 urban storm garden boxes and installed 386 square yards of porous surfaces that absorb water and allow rain to go directly through the concrete into the soil below. The project replaced traditional systems along one block of West Broadway from Elm to Oak streets. The project was part of the City's Spokane Urban Greenways Ecosystem, SURGE project.

A Reminder from SCRAPS this 4th of July

A Reminder from SCRAPS this 4th of July

Fireworks might be fun for humans, but they're not fun for pets. Today, Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services or SCRAPS warns pet owners to keep their four legged friends in a safe spot this 4th of July weekend.

SCRAPS says an owner's best bet is putting your pet in a safe place inside your house. Even if you think your yard is secure, SCRAPS says the loud noises scare some pets so badly they find a way to break out of the yard. It says it responds to dozens of calls during the 4th of scared pets running loose or cowering in odd places.

4th of July Sing-A-Long with The Singing Nuns

4th of July Sing-A-Long with The Singing Nuns

The Singing Nuns came into existence back in 1979 when funds were low and bills had to be paid for the private school and convent.  Singing became a way for the the much needed financial support and the Sisters began fitting in practices, appearaces and recordings into their already busy schedules. The singing however, became not only a means of financial support for the convent and school but also became a mission for the Sisters with the singing of hymns and Gregorian chants which was uplifting to the human heart.

Fourth of July Looking Great

Fourth of July Looking Great

Many remember last years 4th of July weekend as a cool, windy and rainy event. Your memories are intact with last July 2nd having a high of 65 and rainy, windy condition. This year looks much better as Mother Nature has a warm spot for us in the Northwest when it comes to events this year. Our area should be dry and warmer with good sunshine , the temps will be in the high 70's. Perfect for whatever you may be planning.
