Jury Convicts Tinfoil Bandit

A Spokane jury deliberated for about three hours before convicting a man of 1st Degree Robbery after he stole about a nickel's worth of aluminum foil.

David Hickam went into the Rite-Aid on North Division and shoplifted the single sheet of foil.

When Hickam was confronted by a security guard he fought with the officer and pepper sprayed him in the face.

At that point, prosecutors say, Hickam was no longer stealing from a store but a rather a person, and that's why he was charged with robbery.

Spokane Schools Won't Increase Elementary Class Sizes

The school board for Spokane Public Schools decided Tuesday night not to increase elementary class sizes and to recall a number of teachers who were facing layoffs.

During its work session, the district determined it would keep class sizes at current levels. Earlier, a proposal to increase class sizes met with sharp criticism from parents. The district had been considering increasing class sizes by three students in grades K-12 in a move that could potentially save up to $5 Million.

The district is still discussing increasing class sizes at the middle and high school levels.
