Spring In Spokane Was One Of Our Coolest And Wettest

Spring In Spokane Was One Of Our Coolest And Wettest

Spokane residents should be congratulated.  We just made through the 9th coolest and 4th wettest Spring on record!  At Spokane International Airport, 6.89" of precipitation, both rain and snow, was measured for the three month period of March, April and May (climatologists use those months for "Spring" for record-keeping purposes).  This falls short of the record, which is 9.24" set back in 1948.  Records have been kept for Spokane since 1881.    There were some records broken this Spring in other Inland Northwest towns.  Deer Park

National Doughnut Day - FRIDAY

National Doughnut Day - FRIDAY

This coming Friday will be National Doughnut Day, a national observance the first Friday of June. In 1917 the ladies of the Salvation Army would fry up 5000 doughnuts, this overseas during WW l , then take them out to the battle lines with hot coffee for the soldiers. Often these doughnuts were even cooked in the helmet of a soldier, if not doughnuts homemade foods were delivered by the Salvation Army "Lassies"  to bring comfort to our boys. Many doughnut shops will be giving out a free doughnut to patrons coming by this Friday.

Pine River Park Closed

Pine River Park Closed

Spokane County announced today that Pine River County Park on the Little Spokane River  is closed.  Although the river is receding, there are plenty of problems.  The ground in the park is saturated with water, causing a muddy mess.

The park will remain closed until the water level drops.

Sections of the centennial trail are also under water, specifically in the area of gateway regional park near the Idaho state line.
