Fish smoker catches North Spokane house on fire
News

Firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire in Northwest Spokane early Thursday morning that started due to a fish smoker.

The fire started around 2 a.m. on the 6000 block of North Greenwood Blvd.

When firefighters arrived, the family living in the house was already outside and everyone was accounted for. Firefighters said there was a lot of smoke coming from the back of the house.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to contain the fire, but they were on-scene for more than 2 and a half hours doing overhaul on the house. Firefighters said the kitchen, two bedrooms and the attic were heavily damaged.

A fire investigator determined a fish smoker on the back porch started the fire.

One of the people living inside the house was treated for smoke inhalation.

The local Red Cross is assisting the family.
